About Pomelo Pip

Pomelo Pip is dedicated to creating beautiful fictional picture books dealing with complex and sometimes distressing childhood issues that are often underrepresented in mainstream fiction publishing. We are Juliet Clare Bell (PhD; children's author, former developmental psychologist, and always called Clare) and Dave Gray (children's illustrator and graphic designer). We have been working together since 2015, when we were commissioned to write and illustrate a picture book for Birmingham Children's Hospital's Magnolia House Appeal, which became The Unstoppable Maggie McGee (raising more than £48,ooo to date). We were successful in getting funding from the Arts Council to create another picture book, this time about sibling bereavement, and created Pomelo Pip as the publisher. We have both worked and volunteered with marginalised children, families and adults, and we plan to write several more books under Pomelo Pip over the coming years.
